In the early 1950’s my Great Grandmother hopped on a train during the great migration from New Orleans to California seeking a better life for her Daughter Johnnie Mae and her grandchildren.
My grandmother Mrs. Johnnie Mae created an amazing recipe that has pleased generations with her Creole cooking traditions.
In our younger generations first visit to New Orleans, we learned there were many ways to prepare Gumbo. Traditional, authentic NOLA Gumbo and other Creole Cuisines were a little different from our Grandmother's.
We believe her California lifestyle influenced her cooking due to the local fresh produce, crustaceans out of the Bay and local meat vendors that was accessible to her made her Creole Gumbo recipe unique.
